What Big Decisions Are You Putting Off Making? (And What To Do About It.)

Michael Veltri Decision Making Keynote Speaker
  1. Do I leave my current job?

  2. What should I do about my finances?

  3. Do we hire this new outside VP candidate or do we promote internally?

  4. I want to move.

  5. Do I start a new business or sell my current one — or both?

  6. Do I end my miserable personal relationship?

Decisions.  Decisions.  Decisions.  We all have important decisions to make in business and life.  And we all put off making important decisions for one reason or another.  (I once put off making a decision to move for FIVE years because I really did not like the beautiful home I had just purchased.)

As a leadership keynote speaker, I often share my five decision-making traps and the corresponding five solutions with successful, high-performing audience.  Because no matter how successful and high-performing you are, there is always room to strengthen your decision-making muscle.

And to help you strengthen that muscle, here is one decision-making solution to help you start 2018 off with a bang.

"THE FAB FIVE" DECISION-MAKING TEAM

Jim Rohn — the mentor of personal development guru Tony Robbins — was fond of saying, “We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.”  So, who are the five people that you spend the most time with?  Are they positive influences?  Negative?  Do you even have five “go-to” people in your life?  Do they help you make tough decisions?

So, here’s what to do to create your “Fab Five” in three easy steps:

Step 1.  Write down your current “Fab Five” and why you enjoy spending time with them.  For example, “My friend Tom — helps me blow off steam and makes me laugh.  Knows me very well and gives me great business advice.”  And so on.

Step 2.  Evaluate the list:  Are there some people that need to be replaced?  Are some people “energy vampires” that you find yourself avoiding answering their texts or phone calls?  Would you like someone else on your “Fab Five” Decision-Making Dream Team?

Step 3.  Re-create your list with your ultimate Fab Five Dream Team.  Get creative by making one of your fab five a famous historical figure, or your favorite super hero, or your favorite tech-billionaire, etc.  (By including one “hypothetical” member as part of your Fab Five, it will help you come up with more creative and innovate ideas to the tough decisions you are faced with when you have to ask, “What would ‘so-and-so’ do in this situation?”.)

Take action NOW.  Pick one decision you have you been putting off making for a couple days, a couple weeks, or like I once did — a couple years even.  Call, talk, and/or meet with your “Fab Five” and have them support you in making a good choice around this stalled decision.  Have them hold you accountable to take RELEVANT action to move your decision forward.  Do.  It.  Now.  I’m serious — what is it costing you to keep putting off this decision?!
